Keeping the above visual in mind, I will try to explain the purpose and benefits to understanding Western Dressage and how this way of training and riding is useful to horse/rider pairs of all disciplines.
Some like to compete in horse shows, some enjoy ACTHA competitive trail rides, some prefer to just ride the trails for relaxation -whatever your reason is to ride being able to control your horses body parts is essential for safety and ultimate enjoyment both for horse and rider.
A Western horse is usually thought of as a working animal who sports western tack designed as equipment to carry ropes, packs and other accessories.
Classical gaits are similar to Western gaits but differ with the confirmation of the animal. I will be covering the similarities of gaits, etc. in the next article.
